Atroshenko.' PROVENANCE: Sylvan Cole, New York RELATED LITERATURE: Milton Grundy, "Atroshenko: Paintings 1959-1985," London, Warwick Arts Trusts, 1985. Born in Shanghai in 1935, Viacheslav Atroshenko was the son of Ukrainian emigres. The family later relocated to Hong Kong during WWII. In addition to being an artist, Atroshenko was also a noted scholar, co-authoring books on art and architecture such as "Mediterranean Vernacular: A Vanishing Architectural Tradition" and "Origins of the Romanesque." This work was a personal gift from the artist to the renowned art dealer Sylvan Cole.
